I-Golioh

About This Sketch

The ‘I-Golioh’ is a creature Scott developed in early 2024. The key idea came from Barlow’s Guide to Extraterrestrials which was a text Scott found very inspiring when he originally started coming up with designs for his own creatures.

Scott has long been fascinated with what an alien creature might look like and in the case of the I-Golioh, Scott wanted to creature that looked like an extension of the forests and trees which it calls home.

The I-Golioh is normally a solitary creature, it is very unusual to see more than one of them at a time, but although they look quite unusual, they have a gentle nature and can be found most commonly swinging from the canopy treetop occasionally coming down to the ground to migrate to new territory.

The original image of the I-Golioh was hand-drawn using coloured pencil on cartridge paper.

The featured image of the I-Golioh was edited by DS Coremans using Photoshop. The background for the image was generated and enhanced by boosting the colours of the image using a colour filter.

In the alternate images of the ‘I-Golioh’, different backgrounds were generated to consider what kind of environment the Headhile might have been found in. After creating the original design, Scott used the Rotoscoping technique in Procreate dreams to create his own digital version of his own design, to fully realise what this character might look like in an animated adventure, and the end result looks great.

This hybrid work between Scott and Darren is something they have been working on together since early 2025, so that both of them can learn new skills, but also so that Scott can get a better sense of how these characters could be developed as he continues to work on his skills as an animator.

Key inspirations for Scott at the moment are from some of his favourite animated movies. These stills have been taken from the three animation design styles Scott is most interested in developing: Hand Drawn, Stop-Motion, and Digital Designs.
