Headhile

About This Sketch
‘Headhile’ is a creature Scott developed quite recently. Scott’s inspiration for this creature was to create a female warrior character that showed that women can be as strong, or stronger than men. This character is much closer to human than most of the creatures Scott enjoys designing, but he had a lot of fun deciding what kind of personality the Headhile would have, and he did a great job capturing her strength and personality in his design.
The Headhile is a warrior and hero who protects the people who live in the city she belongs to, she watches out for those in need ready to help them when they need her most.

The original image of the Headhile was hand-drawn using coloured pencil on cartridge paper.
The featured image of Headhile was edited by DS Coremans using Photoshop. The background for the image was generated and enhanced by boosting the colours of the image using a colour filter.
In the alternate images of ‘Headhile’, different backgrounds were generated to consider what kind of environment the Headhile might have been found in. After creating the original design, Scott used the Rotoscoping technique in Procreate dreams to create his own digital version of his own design, to fully realise what this character might look like in an animated adventure, and the end result looks great.
This hybrid work between Scott and Darren is something they have been working on together since early 2025, so that both of them can learn new skills, but also so that Scott can get a better sense of how these characters could be developed as he continues to work on his skills as an animator.
Key inspirations for Scott at the moment are from some of his favourite animated movies. These stills have been taken from the three animation design styles Scott is most interested in developing: Hand Drawn, Stop-Motion, and Digital Designs.
