Critus – The Elder Yuzzik

About This Sketch

‘Critus – the Elder Yuzzik’ is a newly developed concept for a creature Scott is considering adding to his IALFEC project. Critus is one of the original Yuzzik whose story Scott is hoping to tell as he gets to grips with the animation software he is beginning to use.

The original sketch is created using coloured graphite pencil on cartridge paper.

The featured image of Critus was edited by DS Coremans using photoshop. The background for the image was removed and the colours of the image were boosted by adding a colour filter which made the colours a little darker, yet more vibrant.

In the alternate images the colours of the image were blurred to make the creatures design stand out a little more, and a dark outline was added to make the sketch seem more defined.

This hybrid work between Scott and Darren is something new they have been working on together so that both of them can learn new skills, but also so that Scott can get a better sense of how these characters could be developed as he continues to work on his skills as an animator.

A key inspiration for this project was the computer game Clash Artifacts of Chaos, and the YuGiOh Duel Monsters series.

Another of Scott’s favourite games which inspired the IALFEC creatures is Solar Ash.
