The Author

About This Sketch
‘The Author’ is a creature Scott developed in early 2021 during his Kaiju era of design. Scott’s inspiration for this creature was his consideration of what would be left behind when all other life had gone from a once vibrant planet. The Author, is the the only creature left at the end of this strange world’s time, and the only one left to tell the stories left behind.
A creature with a sad story perhaps, but a story that very much seems worth telling.
The Author is a fascinating creature that may yet feature in one of Scott’s IALFEC universe.

The original image of the The Author was hand-drawn using coloured pencil on cartridge paper.
The featured image of The Author was edited by DS Coremans using Photoshop. The background for the image was edited and enhanced by boosting the colours of the image using a colour filter.
In the alternate images of The Author, different backgrounds were generated to consider what kind of environment The Author might have been found in.
This hybrid work between Scott and Darren is something they have been working on together since early 2025, so that both of them can learn new skills, but also so that Scott can get a better sense of how these characters could be developed as he continues to work on his skills as an animator.
Key inspirations for Scott at the moment are from some of his favourite animated movies. These stills have been taken from the three animation design styles Scott is most interested in developing: Hand Drawn, Stop-Motion, and Digital Designs.
