The Zleall

About This Sketch
‘The Zleall’ is a special character developed by Scott. As he was considering a larger story about space dwelling life forms Scott came to dwell on a question: What would a sentient, biological mass transport ship look like?
Stories like Jonah and the Whale go far back in time and have long asked questions of this nature, like the whale in this story the Zleall is a space dwelling creature in which smaller hominid creatures can travel deep within the void of space.
The Zleall is a fascinating creature that may yet feature in one of Scott’s IALFEC universe.

The original image of the Zleall was hand-drawn using coloured pencil on cartridge paper.
The featured image of The Zleall was edited by DS Coremans using Photoshop. The background for the image was edited and enhanced by boosting the colours of the image using a colour filter.
In the alternate images of The Zleall, different backgrounds were generated to consider what kind of environment the Zleall might have been found in.
This hybrid work between Scott and Darren is something they have been working on together since early 2025, so that both of them can learn new skills, but also so that Scott can get a better sense of how these characters could be developed as he continues to work on his skills as an animator.
Key inspirations for Scott at the moment are from some of his favourite animated movies. From Dreamworks; the Shrek franchise, from Blue Sky Studios; the Ice Age franchise, and Disney in general, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary as an animation studio.
