Hriea

About This Sketch
‘Hriea’ is a character development sketch using a creature from one of Scott’s current projects the ‘IALFEC‘ universe. Hriea is a concept for a new character, in this study Scott has been considering what characters and creatures might look like if it had evolved from a reptilian creature. Hriea would be a side character, she would help the main characters on their quest.

The original sketch is created using coloured graphite pencil on cartridge paper.
The featured image of Hriea was edited by DS Coremans using photoshop. The background for the image was removed and the colours of the image were boosted using a colour filter.
In the alternate images of Hriea, different colour filters were used to enhance Scott’s original design, and using Photoshop’s internal AI image generator background images were added to the final two images to reflect the terrain you might find Hriea in, as a reptile the planet Hriea evolved on is a mix of desert and jungle.
This hybrid work between Scott and Darren is something new they have been working on together so that both of them can learn new skills, but also so that Scott can get a better sense of how these characters could be developed as he continues to work on his skills as an animator.
Key inspirations for Scott at the moment are from some of his favourite animated movies. From Dreamworks; the Shrek franchise, from Blue Sky Studios; the Ice Age franchise, and Disney in general, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary as an animation studio.
