About This Sketch

‘Iolac’ is another of the ‘Yuzzik’ creatures designed by Scott which is part of his larger collection of bug-like monsters, inspired by Kaiju designs.

The name, and design of this creature are also linked to the anime series Pokemon and in particular the Generation 1 Pokemon ‘Scyther‘.

What is ‘Kaiju’?

Kaiju‘ literally means ‘strange creature’, but often in English the word that is most often used to translate the term Kaiju is ‘Monster’. This can be attributed to the fact that traditional Kaiju would often be represented as inherently destructive beings.

Kaiju films usually showcase monsters of any form attacking a major Japanese city or engaging another (or multiple) monsters in battle.

Scott’s creatures though strange and in some ways monstrous are not intended to be seen as destructive in the same way that their inspirations are.
